‘The Serpent’

Mont Saint Michel

Brittany, France

September 2024 - my first visit to Brittany and I loved it !! I thought the lighthouses were fantastic until I saw the fishing huts and the mussel farm. Special mention to the ‘Serpent d'Océan’ which is a large aluminium sculpture of a sea serpent skeleton located in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, near Nantes. Created by Chinese-French artist Huang Yong Ping, the 130-meter-long artwork was installed in 2012. Its tail is at the low tide mark and the head at high tide, with the vertebrae mimicking the shape of local fishing huts on stilts. It is part of the Estuaire contemporary art trail along the Loire estuary.

Minimalist heaven !
