‘Line of Fir Trees’

‘Ribbon of Green’

Arctic Circle, Norway

It had been a lifelong ambition to travel to the Arctic Circle and to witness and photograph the Aurora Borealis.  In 2018 I visited the Lofoten Islands and experienced this harsh and freezing environment with short daylight hours. However the beautiful mountains, frozen lakes, pristine beaches and quaint fishing villages made the trip so worthwhile.   I only had one opportunity to see the Aurora Borealis so I always wanted to revisit. I finally got back in January 2025. This time we travelled further North from Tromso to Senja and the Lyngen Alps. I experienced the cold of minus 24 degrees - every part of my body was layered except for my eyes. But I found it so hard to keep my fingers warm & I needed them to operate my camera ! The scenery was simply stunning & we really felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. And I witnessed a fantastic display of the Aurora - again only on 1 night but it satisfied my need !
